Busy Day! March 1st was a busy day for the club. Due to warmer temperatures and a craft sale at the mall, there was a huge number of visitors to the LLRC headquarters. In addition, we had some special visitors: Troop 537, Medina, MN. checks out the HO layout while I give a painfully boring description of the DCC control system. Photo by Terry Davis.
After we closed up for the day, we headed out to the depot to install the sign Bruce and I have been working on since, uh, September? Left to right: Gerald Karstens, Chuck Olesen, Stan Koci, David Zachmeyer, and Bruce Crosby. Photo by Terry Davis. We created the sign as the first step of a publicity effort to educate the community about the history of the depot and Hutchinson's railroading history. It also informs the public that there is an effort being started to preserve the building. Surprisingly, many people were not aware that a depot still existed in Hutchinson! |

Hi Folks; Just a note from Historic Hutchinson to let you all know what a great job your are doing. The gift you are giving the town by your support and leadership on this project will last for generations. Again, thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jim Fahey -------------------- Jim sent us this note to thank everyone in the LLRC who has generously donated their time and money toward stabilizing the depot. Of course, this project would not be possible without the support of Historic Hutchinson, as they have donated funds for the materials needed. So we in turn thank them for making this possible, and we look forward to working with them in the future, as we pursue a restoration effort.
Other organizations have also helped, please thank them for their efforts as well: McLeod Regional Rail Authority - for allowing us access to the building! McLeod County Historical Society - research United Building Centers, Hutchinson - materials Paragon Builders - use of their dump truck

Sioux
Falls, November 2002
Terry and Patrice Davis, members of Luce Line Railroad Club Inc., took their N scale Cleveland, Mankato & Eastern to the Trains at Christmas show in Sioux Falls, Nov. 9-10, 2002. They represented the club and the Thousand Lakes Region of the National Model Railroad Association. Terry is vice-president of the TLR for 2002-2003. His one-year term expires in May.
The detail on Terry Davis' N scale Cleveland, Mankato & Eastern was studied by this father/son combo at the Sioux Valley Model Engineers Society show in Sioux Falls on Nov. 9-10, 2002. Davis is a founding member of Luce Line Railroad Club Inc. in Hutchinson, Minn. The CM&E is on display from time to time at the club's home in Hutchinson Mall. The club has three other layouts — HO, American Flyer and three-rail O — regularly operating for the public 7-9 p.m. every Tuesday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first and third Saturday of each month. Watch for the club's new spring show at the mall May 3-4, 2003. Several layouts in various scales from throughout the area will be on display.
Luce Line Railroad Club Inc.'s three-rail O scale layout traveled to Willmar, Minn., for the Minnesota River Valley Division's third annual library open house. The crew includes: Bob Holien, Gerald Karstens, Charles Olsen, Tom Wiprud, John Larsen and Dick Desens. The trip was the layout's first outside of its Hutchinson home. The MRVD is a NMRA division and the LLRC is a 100-percent NMRA club.
Luce Line Railroad Club Inc. member Tom Wiprud, left, of Hutchinson looks over the HO display put together by Minnesota River Valley Division member Gerald Baker of Granite Falls for the MRVD's open house Feb. 8 at the Willmar Public Library. There were six layouts in several scales on display at the third annual event — Z, N, HO, O and G. The two groups collaborate each fall to put on the Hutchinson Model Railroad Show, scheduled this year for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at the McLeod County Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Minn. Admission is $3.

The subject of club-logo apparel (hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc.) has been floating around for a few months. This is my rendition of a four-color club logo. It could also be done in three colors or black & white.

We're Moving!!! May 17th (Hutchinson) - No, this website is not moving, but the club is! After many years in our current location in the Hutchinson Leader building, the Luce Line Railroad Club will be moving to its new headquarters in the Hutchinson Mall. The club will occupy the former Godfather's Pizza storefront on the south end of the mall. The events surrounding the move happened rather quickly. Shortly after Godfather's moved to their new location, club member Bruce Crosby contacted the mall management to discuss the possibilities of the club occupying the vacant space. The inquiry was met with a very positive response. Knowing that we had to move quickly in order to secure the space, an impromptu meeting was held during a May 8th operating session, with a quorom of voting members (per club by-laws), to vote on pursuing the matter. A unanimous vote sealed the deal. The move will happen over the next couple of weeks, as both the club and the mall will benefit from the move. We are very grateful to the Hutchinson Leader for allowing us to use their facilities for a number of years, but it is time to move to a location that will allow the public to view our layouts on a regular basis. Plus, no more carrying modules up and down the stairs! Refer back to this site for regular updates on the progress of the move, and a schedule of events and open house days at the mall.

Thank You! For making the 7th Hutchinson Model Railroad Show a complete success!
Thanks to the great turnout by the exhibitors, vendors, and model railroad fans, this year's show was the best ever! We will be adding photos and additional information in the near future, so please check back.

Members: please send your feedback on the proposed update to the club logo, shown below.
The original logo was only available in bitmap form, which is difficult to use for anything other than the newsletter. I completely redrew it in a scaleable format (postscript) which will make it more useable for signs, decals, etc. While working on it I decided to add a locomotive instead of the giant word "Club" that was used in the original. The rest stayed pretty close to the original, except for cleaning up a few minor details. Let me know what you think!

Web Site Report: May 17th, 2001
Yes, we are still here! Your conductor (me) for this web site has spent the winter months curled up next to the nice, warm stove in the caboose, instead of in front of the computer. The web site has thus been a bit neglected, but rest assured that the LLRC is alive and very much active. We have recently voted to become a 100% NMRA club - stay tuned for more details. The new three-rail layout is underway and should see rail going down in the next few weeks. And best of all, preparations have begun for our annual show, to be held October 13th, 2001!
Just added! LLRC now has a message board:
